Transcript of remarks by CE at media session (with video)
*********************************************************

Following is the transcript of remarks by the Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, at a media session at the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce this afternoon (August 15):

Reporter: Mr Leung, why ... think this is going to divide the community further?

Chief Executive: As a member of the Hong Kong community, I'm in favour of implementing universal suffrage in Hong Kong to elect the Chief Executive of Hong Kong in the year 2017. It will be a historic move if Hong Kong could do that, but we have to do it in accordance with the Basic Law and the relevant NPC (National People's Congress) Standing Committee decisions. I am, at the same time, opposed to using illegal means including "occupying Central", which is designed to be illegal, to achieve this objective.

Hong Kong is a law-abiding society, and we have enough open channels for different views to be expressed, and therefore I'm here, as a member of the Hong Kong community, to promote and to foster the opportunity of achieving universal suffrage in Hong Kong in the year 2017 and oppose illegal means of achieving this end.
