CE meets Chairman of Shanghai Stock Exchange (with photos)
**********************************************************

The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, met the visiting Chairman of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, Mr Gui Minjie, at Government House this afternoon (August 13) to exchange views on financial co-operation matters between Hong Kong and Shanghai.

Mr Leung said he attaches great importance to the preparatory work for launching the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect. He also expressed his gratitude for the staunch support and assistance provided by the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

He said that since Premier Li Keqiang's announcement of the mutual stock market access between Hong Kong and Shanghai at the opening ceremony of this year's Boao Forum, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government had been maintaining close contact with Shanghai and proactively following up on the matter so that the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect could launch smoothly as planned.

Mr Leung said that the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect could promote the two-way opening up of the capital markets of the two sides, and also further enhance and reinforce Hong Kong as an international financial and trade centre and promote the development of the city's securities industry.

Mr Leung said that other than the Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect, there are vast co-operation opportunities between Hong Kong and Shanghai in various areas such as finance, economic and trade affairs, society and culture. He expressed the hope that the two sides could continue to strengthen co-operation and bring about mutually beneficial results.
