********************************************

The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, under the authority delegated by the Chief Executive, has appointed Dr William Wong Ming-fung and re-appointed Ms Teresa Ko Yuk-yin as non-executive directors of the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC). The appointment and re-appointment are for a term of two years from August 1, 2014.

Dr Wong has been in practice as a barrister in Hong Kong since 1998 and was appointed a senior counsel in 2013. Ms Ko is the China Chairman of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Making the announcement today (July 31), a government spokesman said, "Dr Wong has a wealth of experience and expertise in the legal sector. We believe that Dr Wong will provide invaluable contributions to the work of the SFC. Ms Ko has provided useful advice and guidance on the performance of functions by the SFC during her tenure. We look forward to her continued support for the work of the SFC."

The spokesman added, "We would also like to thank the outgoing non-executive director Mr Anderson Chow Ka-ming for his active and valuable contribution to the work of the SFC during his service as a non-executive director of the SFC over the past three and a half years. We look forward to his continued support for the further development of our financial services."

The role of the non-executive directors is to participate in policy formulation on the work of the SFC and to keep an independent eye on the SFC's executive management and organisational matters.

The SFC is chaired by Mr Carlson Tong. Other serving non-executive directors are Professor Leonard Cheng Kwok-hon, Mr Lawrence Lee Kam-hung, Ms Ma Xuezheng, Dr Kelvin Wong Tin-yau and Mr Wong Kai-man.
