Putien, a Singapore-based restaurant specialising in Putian cuisine, announced today (July 28) that it has made its first foray into Hong Kong, opening a restaurant in the city as an important step in its overseas expansion plan.

The award-winning restaurant offers customers the traditional Putian taste, based on home-style Heng Hwa cuisine from its namesake city of Putian, a coastal suburb in Fujian. The Hong Kong restaurant is located in the Lee Theatre Plaza in the heart of Causeway Bay, a part of Hong Kong very popular with visitors.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Putien, Fong Chi-chung, said, "It is my ambition to get Putian cuisine recognised globally. Hong Kong has a huge number of international and Mainland Chinese visitors, which provides us with an excellent platform to take our Putien brand to the next level.

"Hong Kong is strategically located at the heart of Asia and close to Mainland China. I'm confident that I can make use of Hong Kong's international status in making Putien an outstanding international brand, as well as entering into the Mainland market," Mr Fong added.

Putien operates nine branches in Singapore plus four overseas branches in Malaysia and Indonesia. The new restaurant in Causeway Bay is the company's first outlet in Hong Kong and it plans to open two restaurants every year in the city in the long term.

Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Andrew Davis, welcomed the opening of Putien in Hong Kong and said, "I'm glad to see that another well known overseas restaurant has established its foothold in Hong Kong. The city provides excellent brand exposure, which makes it the ideal launchpad for brands targeting the regional and overseas markets. We wish Putien every success in its business in Hong Kong and for its future expansion."
