Standard Working Hours Committee holds "Working Hours Cafe" at shopping mall (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Standard Working Hours Committee:

     The Standard Working Hours Committee (SWHC) held a "Working Hours Cafe" at a shopping mall in Sham Shui Po at noon today (July 24), during which the Chairperson of the SWHC, Dr Leong Che-hung, together with the Convenors of the Committee's two working groups on Working Hours Consultation and Working Hours Study, Mr Ng Chau-pei and Mr Stanley Lau respectively, had a tea gathering with members of the public and listened to their views on working hours.

     Dr Leong said, "Further to visits to a construction site and a cooked food centre in June, we are pleased to conduct another community visit today and through a 'Working Hours Cafe' chat with members of the public and employed persons of various sectors. The information gathered has enhanced the SWHC's understanding of the working hours situation of Hong Kong and views of the public on working hours issues."

     Dr Leong said, "In the run-up to the end of the public engagement and consultation on working hours, the SWHC will convene the last public consultation forum this Saturday (July 26) at Heng On Estate Community Centre, Heng On Estate, Ma On Shan. Apart from inviting calls to 2127 4504 to register for attending the forum, we welcome the public to express views by fax (3007 9037), email (workinghours@project-see.net) or mail (SEE Network Limited (Working Hours Consultation Consultant), Flat 727, 7/F, Block B, Profit Industrial Building, 1-15 Kwai Fung Crescent, Kwai Chung) before the end of the consultation on July 31."

     The SWHC comprises a Chairperson and 23 members, including 12 serving members (employer and employee representatives) of the Labour Advisory Board. The remaining 11 members come from the labour and business sectors, academia, the community at large and the Government.
