Appointments of Leveraged Foreign Exchange Trading Arbitration Panel members

     The Financial Secretary, Mr John C Tsang, has made appointments to the Leveraged Foreign Exchange Trading Arbitration Panel.

     The current Deputy Chairman, Mr Lawrence Lam Yuk-kun, is appointed as the new Chairman. A serving member, Ms Rosita Lee Pui-shan, is appointed as the new Deputy Chairman. Another serving member, Mr Woody Chan Kang-muk, is reappointed, and Mr Jack Cheung is appointed as a new member to the Panel. Mr Cheung is the Chief Executive Officer of the Treasury Markets Association.

     The appointments, made under the Securities and Futures (Leveraged Foreign Exchange Trading) (Arbitration) Rules, are for a term of three years with effect from tomorrow (July 17).

     A Government spokesman said today (July 16), "Members of the Panel are all senior members of the financial services sector. We are thankful to the appointees for making their services available to the Panel. With their expertise and experience, we are confident that all members would be able to contribute to the Panel."

     He added, "We would also like to thank the outgoing Chairman, Mr Justin Chan Siu-chung, and member Mr Philip Lau Cheuk-hang for their contributions to the Panel over the past six years."

     The Panel was established under the Securities and Futures Ordinance to arbitrate disputes between corporations licensed by the Securities and Futures Commission for carrying out leveraged foreign exchange trading and their clients.
