The Hong Kong/Guangdong Strategic Development Research Group today (June 26) held the "2014 Hong Kong/Guangdong Higher Education Co-operation Seminar" at the Central Government Offices, Tamar. The meeting was co-chaired by the Director General of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office (HKMAO) of Guangdong Province, Mr Liao Jingshan, and Head of the Central Policy Unit (CPU), Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Shiu Sin-por.
The seminar, under the topic "Hong Kong/Guangdong Higher Education Co-operation – Experience and the Way Forward", offered an opportunity for participants from higher education and government sectors from the Mainland and Hong Kong to explore further co-operation opportunities and provide policy suggestions.
The Director General, Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Ministry of Education, Mr Cen Jianjun, and the Deputy Director, Department of Education of Guangdong Province, Mr Wei Zhonglin, delivered the welcoming remarks. Six representatives from higher education institutions of both places also shared their valuable experience and insights on the issue. Participants then exchanged their views in the discussion session.
About 40 participants including experts, scholars, representatives from higher education institutions, and government officials from the Mainland and Hong Kong attended the seminar.
The Hong Kong/Guangdong Strategic Development Research Group was established in 2003 under the Hong Kong/Guangdong Co-operation Joint Conference. Members include officials from the CPU and the HKMAO of Guangdong province.
Since its establishment, the group has been promoting and establishing a consultative exchange platform that links the government, academics, business, professional associations, community organisations and other non-governmental organisations of both sides.
