******************************************************

The "Cherish Water Resources" Waterworks Installations Drawing Competition organised by the Water Supplies Department concluded successfully at an award presentation ceremony held today (June 14). The competition was well received, attracting nearly 900 entries.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Director of Water Supplies, Mr Enoch Lam, said that the competition had encouraged the general public and secondary school students in particular to draw creative ideas based on waterworks installations such as reservoirs, dams, water treatment works and services reservoirs and to use "visual language" to spread the message of "Cherish Water Resources". He said he hoped they would care and understand more about water resources and waterworks installations through the competition.

The Chairman of both the competition's adjudication panel and the Advisory Committee on Water Resources and Quality of Water Supplies, Dr Chan Hon-fai, said that the competition posed a great challenge to the participants as they were required to feature waterworks installations and the concept of water conservation in their creative works. He was impressed by the high quality of the entries, which showed participants' in-depth thinking and analysis of water resources, water quality and water supplies. He said that the participants had successfully converted their ideas into creative and compelling artworks, which will serve as invaluable resources for promoting water conservation.

Other adjudicators included Legislative Council member, Dr Lo Wai-kwok; contemporary artist, Ms Choi Yan-chi; and renowned artist, Mr Lui Chun-kwong.

The competition was divided into the Open Category and the Secondary School Category. A total of 335 entries were received in the Open Category, while the Secondary School Category received 552 entries from over 100 secondary schools. In each category, the panel selected a champion, first runners-up, second runners-up, a number of merit awards and commendations as well as Special Citation Awards for Best Creativity, Best Visual Impact and Best Publicity. A roving exhibition of the 53 winning entries and selected entries will be held from this month till September in various districts. Details of the exhibition and results of the competition are available on the department's website (www.wsd.gov.hk).
