Appointment of Vice-President of the Court of Appeal

The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Judiciary today (June 13) announced the appointment of the Honourable Mr Justice Michael Victor Lunn, Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of the High Court, as Vice-President of the Court of Appeal of the High Court with effect from June 16, 2014.

     The biographical note of the Honourable Mr Justice Lunn is as follows:

     The Honourable Mr Justice Lunn was born in 1950 in Zimbabwe. He obtained B.A. (Law) and an M.A. degree from Cambridge University in 1972 and 1976 respectively. He was called to the English Bar (Inner Temple) in 1973 and the Hong Kong Bar in 1981. He was appointed as Queen's Counsel in 1994. He was in private practice in the United Kingdom from 1974 to 1977 and worked in the then Attorney-General's Chambers in Hong Kong from 1977 to 1981. From 1982 to 2003, he was in private practice in Hong Kong. From 2001 to 2003, he was Vice-Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar Association. He served as a Recorder of the Court of First Instance of the High Court from 2000 until his appointment as a Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court in 2003. From 2005 to 2012, he was Chairman of the Market Misconduct Tribunal. From October 2012 to April 2013, he was Chairman of the Commission of Inquiry into the circumstances leading to the collision of two vessels near Lamma Island on October 1, 2012. He was appointed as Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of the High Court in 2011. In 2013, he was appointed as member of the Governing Body of the Judicial Institute.
