Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK) staged a seminar in Nanjing today (June 10) as part of the SmartHK series of events being held today and tomorrow (June 11). The seminar, entitled "Conference on Hong Kong's Fund-raising Platform for Chinese Enterprises", highlighted Hong Kong's advantages for Mainland enterprises in terms of global fund-raising and corporate development. The SmartHK series of events was jointly organised with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd, the Financial Affairs Office of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, and the Federation of Industry and Commerce of Jiangsu Province.

The seminar showcased Hong Kong's advantages in terms of financial services. It offered Mainland enterprises a platform to learn about and discuss financing. The Deputy Director of the Financial Affairs Office of the Jiangsu Provincial People's Government, Mr Nie Zhenping; Assistant Executive Director of the HKTDC Mr Raymond Yip; and Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion Miss Victoria Tang delivered welcome speeches.

Speaking at the seminar, Miss Tang said, "Hong Kong and Jiangsu have close economic ties, and Hong Kong is also one of the major sources of foreign direct investment for Jiangsu. Jiangsu has put forward a series of measures to enable enterprises in the province to 'go global' in tandem with the national policy. For those Jiangsu enterprises, Hong Kong provides a convenient financing channel and an ideal platform to list. By leveraging Hong Kong's edge in terms of marketing, branding, asset management, international business networks and research and development infrastructure, plus its deep pool of talent, Mainland companies can make use of Hong Kong as a testing ground to raise their competitiveness and 'go global'."

During the panel discussion "Hong Kong: The ideal platform for Mainland companies listing and financing", the Assistant Vice President, Mainland Development of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd, Mr Franky Chung, gave an overview of Hong Kong's capital markets and information on how overseas and Mainland brands can list in Hong Kong. Representative of Eastern China, Mainland Development of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd Mr Mark Liu hosted a second panel, "Brand marketing strategy, and development of Mainland enterprises listing and financing, as well as overseas mergers and acquisitions". The speakers included the Managing Director (Private Equities) of VMS Investment Group, Mr Chow Siu-lui; the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Goodbaby International Holdings Ltd, Mr Liu Tongyou; Partner and Head of Mergers and Acquisitions of Li & Partners Mr Daniel Liew; and the Managing Director of Investment Banking at China Galaxy International Financial Holdings Ltd, Mr Regan Yang.
