The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, concluded her visit to Malaysia today (June 6).

In the morning, Mrs Lam attended and spoke at the symposium on "Creating New Culture Belts: From Heritage Conservation to Urban Regeneration" of the Spotlight Hong Kong in Penang festival co-presented by the Hong Kong Fringe Club and the George Town Festival. Speaking on the theme of "Conserving our Heritage, Driving our Development", she shared the experience of Hong Kong in preserving built heritage and giving it a new lease of life. She made particular reference to Hong Kong's major Conserving Central initiative, which would increase the vibrancy and character of the central business district.

Mrs Lam then attended a luncheon hosted by Penang State Executive Councillor Mr Chow Kon Yeow to exchange views on areas of mutual interest together with Penang State Legislative Assembly Member and State Minister for Youth and Sports, Women, Family and Community Development Ms Chong Eng and the Speaker of the Penang State Legislative Assembly, Mr Law Choo Kiang.

In the afternoon, Mrs Lam visited the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site and met with artists from Hong Kong participating in the Spotlight Hong Kong in Penang festival.

"Both Hong Kong and Malaysia have a rich cultural life which embraces arts and traditions of both East and West. I look forward to further collaboration and exchanges between the cultural sectors in Hong Kong and Malaysia," Mrs Lam said.

Mrs Lam will have a dinner gathering with Hong Kong people living and working in Penang in the evening, and will return to Hong Kong tomorrow morning (June 7).
