Social Innovation Video Competition for Secondary Students invites ideas to tackle poverty problems
***********************************************************

With the aim of raising awareness of poverty relief and social innovation among secondary school students, the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund (SIE Fund) of the Commission on Poverty and the Government's Youth Portal (Youth.gov.hk) have jointly organised the Social Innovation Video Competition for Secondary Students. The champion team will be awarded a four-day tour of Seoul to visit and film the city's social innovation projects. To enhance students' understanding of the subjects and inspire innovative ideas, a seminar, workshops and guided tours will be arranged in June and July and are now open for enrolment together with the Competition.

The Competition is open to all secondary school students in Hong Kong to participate in teams of up to four members representing a school or an organisation. Participants are welcome to set out their ideas on ways to build social bridges in a three-minute video with the theme of "Tackling Poverty Problems by Social Innovation". The deadline for submissions is October 21.

The Competition features great prizes, with the champion team to be awarded a four-day Social Innovation Exploration Trip to Seoul. As an early-bird offer, applicants who enrol in the competition on or before June 27 will have the opportunity to join a Dialogue Experience activity or a Walk in Hong Kong tour for free.

A series of programmes including a seminar and three sessions of a workshop and guided tour to social innovation projects will be held from June 27 to July 8. Prominent figures in social innovation and video production including Social Enterprise Advisor Mr Kee Chi-hing and the Executive Producer of "Tuesday Report", Ms Yuan Siu-ching, have been invited to share their experience.

In the guided tours, students will be able to witness how a community kitchen can save over 2,500 kilograms of surplus food and serve over 3,500 free hot meals and food packs each day. Or they might rethink the value of life through a simulation of a life journey through demonstrations and activities. There is also a chance for them to know more about the lifestyles and cultures of ethnic minorities through special snack tasting and henna art trials. All the programmes, which combine knowledge, skill and experience, are expected to enhance students' understanding of poverty relief and social innovation.

Enrolment is now open to secondary school students and teachers and the enrolment form is available in the Competition website. Places are limited and reservations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.
