Award-winning local drama "Wild Boar" by Chong Mui-ngam to return in July
***********************************************************

Written by local playwright Chong Mui-ngam and staged at the Hong Kong Arts Festival 2012, "Wild Boar" will return in July, performed by the We Draman Group. The play was recognised as one of the Top Ten Popular Performances at the 22nd Hong Kong Drama Awards.

The story centres on a taciturn professor who conducts research on local oral history and mysteriously disappears. Seasoned journalist Yuen Man-san looks into the case but finds himself muffled by the newspaper for which he works, so he resigns and starts his own newspaper. Although he has capable and sagacious support from his wife Tricia, and the help of a former student, Johnny, the inchoate difficulties of starting a newspaper are intensified by the pressure from all quarters.  Meanwhile, a development project called the Perfect City has surreptitiously started. Do truth and freedom represent the ultimate goal? Would you choose to compromise, or continue like a wild boar, pushing and shoving your way to the truth?

The We Draman Group has been the recipient of a two-year grant from the Hong Kong Arts Development Council since 2013. The group strives to create an all-encompassing creative platform, and bring to the stage high quality productions by dramatists from Hong Kong and other parts of the world that inspire self-contemplation and argumentation, and probe into the issues of society and humanity. In doing so, the group hopes to encourage more cerebral standards in local theatre.

"Wild Boar" is directed by Tang Wai-kit and produced by Chan Pui-man, with Yuen Hon-wai as set designer, Mak Tsz-kwan as costume designer, Ivor Houlker as sound designer and Tang Wai-pui as lighting designer. The main cast includes Chan Wing Chuen, Kwan Po Wai, Tan Johnny, Mung Kit and Leung Tsz Fung.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) under its "Re-run Run Shows" series, "Wild Boar" (performed in Cantonese) will be staged at 8pm on July 4 and 5 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on July 5 and 6 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Shouson Theatre of the Hong Kong Arts Centre.
