Employment agency fined for unlicensed operation
************************************************

The Labour Department (LD) today (May 5) reminded employment agencies to comply with the law or they may face prosecution.

The reminder came after a recent case at Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts in which Hopemay Limited was convicted and fined $4,000 for operating an employment agency without a valid licence.

The Employment Agencies Administration (EAA) of the LD received a complaint from a foreign domestic helper against the employment agency concerned in October 2013. Investigation revealed that the said agency was operating without a valid licence when the case happened.

For enquiries or complaints against unlicensed operation or overcharging of commission by employment agencies, please call the EAA at 2852 3535 or visit its office on 12/F, Harbour Building, 38 Pier Road, Central, Hong Kong.
