*****************************************************

Six jazz groups will stage an outdoor concert entitled "International Jazz Day Hong Kong Celebration 2014" at Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza this Sunday (April 27) at 2.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend and enjoy this free concert.

The concert is being held in support of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's International Jazz Day 2014 to promote jazz music to people from different walks of life, and is being co-presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department; the Consulate General of the United States, Hong Kong and Macau; and the Hong Kong Jazz Association.

Renowned and emerging musicians including the local groups Ted Lo Trio, the 5422 Collective, Twiggy and Patrick, Men in Jazz and the Lamma Jazz Quintet will perform in the concert. They will be joined by the Dolby Quintet from the Mainland.

Ted Lo is a famous jazz musician and composer, musical director, arranger and producer. Through the years he has worked with local artists such as Justin Lo, Eason Chan, Kay Tse and more. He will team up with Sylvain Gagnon and Anthony Fernandez in this concert to perform sensual and passionate music to the audience.

Jazz orchestra the 5422 Collective consists of accomplished players from different musical backgrounds who share the same passion for jazz. The group gave its debut performance at the Hong Kong People's Fringe Festival 2013 and has received critical acclaim.

Jazz musician Patrick Lui will collaborate with emerging jazz singer Twiggy Lam to enchant the audience with jazz music and songs. Amateur group Men in Jazz comprises middle-aged members who, without musical backgrounds, started from zero and took on jazz music and community care as their mission.

The Lamma Jazz Quintet, which is made up of musicians from the US, will play hard-driving jazz and well-known pieces by Chris Potter and Dave Holland. The experienced young jazz musicians of the Mainland group Dolby Quintet will meanwhile perform classical jazz favourites with their own style.
