Police's operation to combat organised crime

     Officers of Police Organized Crime and Triad Bureau, together with Crime Units of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon West, Kowloon East, New Territories South and New Territories North, Police Tactical Unit, Police Dog Unit and traffic teams of different districts mounted an operation codenamed ˇ§Rocksmarterˇ¨ from March 21 to yesterday (April 20) to combat triad related activities.

     After in-depth investigation, Police raided more than 150 locations over the territory and arrested 251 men and 66 women, aged 15 to 77, who were suspected to be in connection with a variety of offences including claiming to be a member of a triad society, criminal intimidation, blackmail, wounding, trafficking in dangerous drugs, assaulting police officers, possession of obscene articles for publication, managing vice establishments, selling liquor without liquor licence and operating gambling establishments.

     During the operation, Police seized various types of weapons including choppers and machetes, gambling paraphernalia, dangerous drugs worth over $200,000, obscene video discs worth $6,700,000 and cash about $310,000.

     Police believes the operation had effectively weakened triad societies and blocked their source of income. Police are determined to combat triad society and forbid their expansion.
