***********************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) organises various recreational and sports activities every year to strengthen the concept of "Sport for All" in the community. Among these activities, the Corporate Games and the Masters Games are highlights for this year. Members of the public are invited to participate while friends and relatives can also come out to cheer for the athletes.

The Corporate Games is a biennial multi-sport event specially organised by the LCSD for employees in industrial and commercial organisations as well as the public sector in Hong Kong. The Games aims to promote team spirit among employees and strengthen their sense of belonging to their respective organisations through sport competitions. By promoting the spirit of "Sport for All", it also encourages employees to establish a daily habit of exercise and build up an energetic and healthy community for the city.

The Games has been well received by people from all walks of life since its debut in 1990. The last Games attracted more than 9 300 participants from 267 organisations. For this year's event, the popularity remains strong as more than 230 organisations have registered so far in the first round of the enrolment exercise.

Comprising 13 sports events, namely athletics, badminton, basketball, distance running, indoor rowing, snooker, swimming, table tennis, tennis, tenpin bowling, volleyball, seven-a-side mini-soccer and 11-a-side soccer, the Corporate Games started in February and will run until December this year.

Admission for some events is still under way on a first-come, first served basis. Please refer to the Annex for the enrolment deadlines. For further information, please refer to the designated website (corporategames.lcsd.gov.hk) or contact LCSD staff at 2601 7673 during office hours.

In addition, the LCSD also organises the Masters Games biennially for people aged 35 or above. Participants can compete against people of similar ages and sustain their interest in sports activities. In order to achieve more active involvement, participants may also be invited to act as umpires in the preliminary rounds of some competitions.

A total of six sports events, comprising badminton, distance running, swimming, table tennis, tai chi and tennis competitions, will be held between June and December this year. People aged 35 or above are eligible to participate. Prospectuses and enrolment details are available on the Masters Games website (www.lcsd.gov.hk/me/mastersgames/en/index.php). For enquiries, please contact LCSD staff at 2414 5555/2601 7672.
