FEHD orders Mong Kok restaurant to suspend business for three weeks
********************************************************

The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a restaurant in Mong Kok to suspend business for 21 days, as the operator repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation (FBR) by allowing staff to prepare food in open space and storing open food improperly on the premises.

The restaurant, located at shop No. 3 on the ground floor of Hung Hay Building at 1L¡V1R Fa Yuen Street, was ordered to suspend business from today (April 20) to May 10.

"Between March 2011 and September 2012, a total of seven convictions for the breaches were recorded against the food establishment," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said.

"A total fine of $12,200 was levied by the court and 50 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the cancellation of the licence," the spokesman said.

"The licensee lodged an appeal to the Licensing Appeals Board and the Municipal Services Appeals Board, which decided to suspend the licence for 21 days in place of cancellation of the licence," he added.

The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the FBR, or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.

Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign, at a conspicuous place near the main entrance, indicating that the premises have been licensed. A list of licensed food premises is available on the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
