Exhibition showcases mobile apps for groups with special needs
*********************************************************

The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) today (April 19) launched a two-day exhibition to showcase mobile applications developed for groups with different special needs. The applications were spearheaded by social service organisations with funding support from the OGCIO.

The Government Chief Information Officer, Mr Daniel Lai, said, "Mobile technology opens up ample opportunities to empower various needy groups. To help them enjoy the benefits brought about by technological advancement, we launched a funding scheme last year to encourage the development of mobile apps to cater for their needs."

OGCIO openly invited project proposals, and seven were finally selected for funding support. The seven funded organisations have been providing services to relevant underprivileged groups in the community and understand the needs of potential users.

"The seven mobile apps provide convenient and useful information and services to cater for the practical needs of different user groups. For example, some apps help children with special learning needs to enhance their language, self-care ability and social skills, while others assist persons with disabilities, ethnic minorities and the elderly to integrate into the society and enjoy smart living," Mr Lai said.

The seven mobile apps are showcased at the Arcade at Cyberport today and tomorrow. The opening hours are from 10am to 7pm.
