CE to visit Hainan and Shanghai

     The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, will depart for Hainan on April 9 to attend the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2014. He will leave for Shanghai on April 11 to participate in parts of the visit programme for the Legislative Council (LegCo) members there.

     The theme of this year's Annual Conference is "Asia's New Future: Identifying New Growth Drivers". Two events featuring Hong Kong will be held this year, namely a session titled "The Future of Hong Kong as an International Financial Centre" and a Hong Kong Dinner Session titled "Hong Kong's Opportunities and Challenges in the Process of RMB Internationalisation".

     This is the first time that the Annual Conference is holding two events to feature the financial development of Hong Kong to highlight the huge development potential of the city's financial sector and its unique role in the financial reform of the Mainland.

     Upon his arrival in Hainan, Mr Leung will attend the Welcome Dinner hosted by the Forum. On the next day, Mr Leung will attend the Opening Plenary in the morning and attend the discussion session on Hong Kong's role as an international financial centre in the afternoon. In the evening on the same day, Mr Leung will deliver a keynote speech at the Hong Kong Dinner Session.

     The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Professor K C Chan, will also participate in this year's Annual Conference as one of the panellists in the discussion session and as the moderator at the Hong Kong Dinner Session.

     In the morning on April 11, Mr Leung will leave Hainan to join parts of the visit by LegCo members in Shanghai. He will return to Hong Kong in the evening on April 13. The Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Mr Edward Yau, and the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Raymond Tam, will accompany Mr Leung for his visit to Shanghai.

     The Director of Information Services, Mr Patrick Nip; the Deputy Private Secretary to the Chief Executive, Miss Linda So; the Senior Special Assistant to the Chief Executive, Mr Chan Kin-ping; and the Assistant Director (Media), Mr Nick Au Yeung, will accompany Mr Leung on his visit to Hainan and Shanghai.

     During Mr Leung's absence, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, will be Acting Chief Executive. During the absence of Professor Chan and Mr Tam, their respective Under Secretaries will be the acting Heads of Bureaux.
