LegCo Members meet with Sai Kung and Sham Shui Po District Council members (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     Members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) held meetings today (March 27) with members of the Sai Kung District Council (DC) and the Sham Shui Po DC respectively in Conference Room 1 and Conference Room 2 of the LegCo Complex to discuss and exchange views on matters of mutual interest.

     During the meeting with the Sai Kung DC, LegCo Members discussed and exchanged views with DC members on the following issues: Hiram's Highway Improvement Project (Stages 1 and 2); request for constructing a covered footbridge connecting Tong Ming Street and Tseung Kwan O MTR Station; objection to incorporating the country park "enclaves" of Tai Long Sai Wan into Sai Kung East Country Park and request for the improvement to the tourism facilities of Sai Kung; objection to extending the Southeast New Territories Landfill; request for expediting the construction of Tiu Keng Leng Park; and request for perfecting the infrastructure in the rural areas and enhancing tourism-related legislation. The meeting was convened by Mr Ronny Tong and attended by Ms Emily Lau, Mr Tommy Cheung, Professor Joseph Lee, Ms Starry Lee, Mr Chan Hak-kan, Mr Ip Kwok-him, Mr Leung Kwok-hung, Mr Gary Fan, Mr Chan Chi-chuen, Ms Chan Yuen-han, Dr Fernando Cheung, Dr Elizabeth Quat, Mr Poon Siu-ping, Ir Dr Lo Wai-kwok and Mr Tony Tse.

     As for the meeting with the Sham Shui Po DC, LegCo Members discussed and exchanged views with DC members on the following issues: street obstruction, noises and hygiene problems caused by vehicles of second-hand electrical appliance recyclers; request for speeding up fund allocation for the construction of the district open space at the junction of Hing Wah Street West, Lai Hong Street and Tung Chau Street; request for expeditious relocation of the Cheung Sha Wan Temporary Wholesale Poultry Market; and concern over problems caused by feral birds.  The meeting was convened by Mr Wong Yuk-man and attended by Mr Frederick Fung, Mr Vincent Fang, Mr Jeffrey Lam, Mr Wong Ting-kwong, Ms Starry Lee, Dr Priscilla Leung, Mr Ip Kwok-him, Mr Yiu Si-wing, Ms Chan Yuen-han, Dr Helena Wong, Dr Chiang Lai-wan, Ir Dr Lo Wai-kwok and Mr Chung Kwok-pan.
