Pet Adoption Day to be held this weekend (with photos)
******************************************************

The two-day "Pets With Love - Pet Adoption Day" will be held at the Sky Dome Atrium, Level 1, Discovery Park Shopping Centre, Tsuen Wan, from noon to 7pm this weekend (March 15 to 16). Admission is free.

The event features a wide range of activities including an animal adoption service whereby members of the public can meet the cats, rabbits and reptiles that are up for adoption. Other activities include celebrities sharing their experience of adopting pets, an educational exhibition, game booths and handicraft workshops. To avoid causing stress to small animals, dogs are not allowed to enter the venue.

Co-organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), the Hong Kong Society of Herpetology, the Hong Kong Rabbit Society, the Lifelong Animal Protection Charity, Lamma Animal Welfare Centre and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the event seeks to encourage people to adopt abandoned or unclaimed animals and promote responsible pet ownership.

Currently, abandoned pets or unclaimed animals with a friendly temperament and good health are vaccinated against major animal diseases and dewormed by the AFCD, and sent to 13 partner animal welfare organisations for adoption. Free desexing operations will also be offered to all AFCD-selected animals being adopted via the partner animal welfare organisations.
