Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, after attending a public event today (March 10):

Reporter: Mr Wong, what do you think Hong Kong can learn from the European countries that you have visited regarding waste treatment?

Secretary for the Environment: We went to the UK (United Kingdom), the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden. Basically, we learnt two aspects. Firstly, we got to know their policies in a comprehensive way. Secondly, we have visited their waste-to-energy facilities. I think the key message regarding the waste-to-energy facilities is that Hong Kong is going to have a large scale, first-of-its-kind facility. The first consideration or the priority consideration should be based on reliability and the facility should be robust, because if Hong Kong is going to have such a large scale facility and it is to be the first one in Hong Kong, to be reliable and to be robust should be the priority concerns.
