The Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department is now inviting applications for the 2014 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp. The event is a well-received annual summer programme that offers young musicians an opportunity to receive intensive orchestral, band and choral training from renowned musicians from Europe, America and Asia in a scenic campsite setting.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to share experiences with other budding musicians and gain inspiration, as well as take part in sports and leisure activities, and will later perform in two concerts to be held in July to showcase their achievements.

The 2014 Hong Kong Youth Music Camp will be held from July 13 to 19 (Camp A) and from July 20 to 26 (Camp B) at the Sai Kung Outdoor Recreation Centre. Qualified local young musicians aged 9 to 25 are welcome to apply. The fee is $1,144 per person for the seven-day and six-night music camps.

Young musicians from overseas and the Mainland are also welcome to join the music camps but with an extra day added, so that the dates will run from July 13 to 20 (Camp A) and from July 20 to 27 (Camp B). The fee for overseas and Mainland campers is $1,700 per person for the eight-day and seven-night music camps. To encourage international music exchanges, Parsons Music, the event's sponsor this year, will offer scholarships for overseas and Mainland young musicians who have attained excellent musical standards to join the camps.

In addition to learning music, campers can also participate in various recreational activities such as swimming, ball games, archery, sports climbing and karaoke at the campsite.

A day camp, titled "A Wonderful Music Day Tour" and costing $60 per person per day, will also be available every Monday to Friday from July 14 to 25 for organisations, families and other groups of individuals to share in delightful music activities such as visiting the camp choir, band and orchestra rehearsals as well as attending mini-concerts and taking part in music games. Day camp participants will also be able to use various recreational facilities available in the camp. A concessionary rate of $44 per person for children, full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 and above and people with disabilities is also available.
