About 5 700 vacancies on offer at Mong Kok Job Expo
***************************************************

The Labour Department will hold the Mong Kok Job Expo at MacPherson Stadium in Mong Kok on March 5 and 6.

With the theme of "Building a Multi-culture Workplace", the Expo serves as a pilot in providing a convenient platform to enhance the employment opportunities of job seekers, in particular those from ethnic minorities, and promoting their awareness of the services of the Labour Department.

A total of 94 organisations will participate in the Expo. Forty-three participating organisations will set up counters and conduct on-the-spot recruitment each day. They mainly come from the catering, retail, transport and property management industries, offering about 5 700 vacancies for job seekers of diverse cultural backgrounds.

In addition, eight training and social services organisations will provide information on training courses and support services to ethnic minorities. Exhibition materials to introduce the services of the Labour Department will also be displayed in a mini-exhibition at the same site. Instantaneous translation services for Hindi, Urdu and Nepalese speakers have been arranged.

The vacancies offered cover a wide variety of positions such as telemarketer, baggage handler, technician, beautician, customer services executive, salesperson, cashier, shop assistant, cook, waiter/waitress, storekeeper, security guard, driver, cleaner and others. Job seekers can find more information on the department's Interactive Employment Service website (www.jobs.gov.hk).

Around 84 per cent of the vacancies are full-time jobs. Most vacancies offer monthly salaries ranging from $8,000 to $14,000. Over 97 per cent of the vacancies require a Secondary Six education level or below. Around 64 per cent are open to job seekers who may lack relevant experience.

Job seekers can submit applications on the spot and may be selected for on-site interviews. They can also register for employment services and make enquiries about applying for the Work Incentive Transport Subsidy at the Labour Department's counter.

The Expo will be held from 11am to 5.30pm at MacPherson Stadium, 1/F, 38 Nelson Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon (MTR Mong Kok Station Exit E2). Admission is free.
