Woman jailed for fraud
**********************

A 53-year-old woman was sentenced to 39 months' imprisonment for fraud at the District Court today (February 27).

The Court heard that between September 2010 and May 2011, the defendant, who was an employee of a local company, submitted some documents to obtain a total of about $16 million of factoring loans and import loans from a local bank. The bank later suspected the defendant had submitted false documents in application of the loans, thus made a report to Police.

Investigations by Commercial Crime Bureau revealed that the forwarder cargo receipts and the purchasing orders submitted by the defendant were false. Police arrested the woman and subsequently charged her with two counts of fraud. The defendant was convicted of the offences and the sentence was handed down today.
