Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra and soprano Anna Baxter to perform works by Richard Strauss
*******************************************************

The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will perform with soprano Anna Baxter this March in two concerts entitled "Love & Hate, Life & Death with Richard Strauss" and presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Under the baton of guest conductor Jimmy Chiang, the concerts will offer an all-Richard Strauss programme including "Four Last Songs", "Death and Transfiguration, Op. 24" and "Salome, Op. 54 - Final Scene".

Founded by Dr Yip Wai-hong, the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra is a highly organised orchestra aiming at promoting music among the general public, especially the young generation in Hong Kong. In order to achieve its goal, the orchestra has given several hundred performances over the course of more than 30 years in the Hong Kong City Hall, regional town halls and civic centres. A number of internationally famous conductors and soloists have been invited to perform with the orchestra. By using the idioms of popular music and organising concert talks, the orchestra has successfully introduced serious music and Chinese orchestral music to the public, and at the same time has brought about an awareness of the indigenous culture of the people.

Soprano Anna Baxter was a prize winner at the 2007 International Singing Competition of Passau in Germany, and also won numerous other competitions during her studies in the US. She has given concerts and recitals in the US, Europe and Asia with orchestras such as the Zagreb Philharmonic, the Sherman Symphony Orchestra and more.

Guest Principal Conductor Jimmy Chiang was a winner of the renowned International Competition of Young Conductors Lovro von Matacic in Zagreb, Croatia, in 2007. Since autumn 2013, he has held the position of Kapellmeister of the world-famous Vienna Boys' Choir, for which he leads the choir in regular concerts, masses at the Imperial Chapel in Vienna and concert tours worldwide.
