********************************************************

About 60 ink paintings and ceramic works created by a group of young budding artists will be on show at the "Art Specialist Course 2013-14 Graduation Exhibition" to be held at the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre from tomorrow (February 15) until February 24.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was held today (February 14). The officiating guests were the Acting Assistant Director (Heritage and Museums) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Mr Tang Hoi-chiu; the Art Specialist Course Directors, Mr Leung Kui-ting (Ink Painting) and Ms Yim Wai-wai (Ceramics); and the Chief Curator of the Art Promotion Office, Dr Lesley Lau.

The works on display demonstrate the efforts of the 26 students who graduated over the past 10 months and not only reveal the artists' concern for society and thoughts on the relationship between individuals and the environment, but also reflect their diverse expressions and individual artistic styles.

Organised by the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department since 2001, the Art Specialist Course, now in its 12th series, emphasises theory, practice, appreciation and criticism and is designed in a way that unlocks the creative potential of the students. It aims to provide holistic learning and practising opportunities for art lovers who wish to develop their individual artistic direction for future pursuits.

Since last year, the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre also introduced the Advanced Practice Course as a continuation to provide progressive training for the graduates of the Art Specialist Course who wish to strengthen their skills in art creation.

The courses for 2014-15 are now open for application until March 1. The Art Specialist Course will offer training in Chinese Calligraphy and Sculpture while the Advanced Practice Course will offer training in Ink Painting and Ceramics. For enquiries about the course content, please call the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre at 2521 3008 or visit the website at www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/Museum/APO/en_US/web/apo/va_art_specialist_course_201415.html .

The Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre is located at 7A Kennedy Road, Central. It is open daily from 10am to 9pm and is closed on Tuesdays. Admission is free.
