***********************************************************

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Tsang Wai-hung, officiated at the Senior Police Call (SPC) Official Launching Ceremony cum Elderly Mini Fun Day at the Police Sports and Recreation Club today (February 12).

Other officiating guests included the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management), Mr Ma Wai-luk, and the Director of Management Services, Mr Lau Yip-shing. Some 400 elderly and guests attended the ceremony.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tsang pointed out that Police-community partnership was an integral part of Police work, and SPC was a good example. The scheme aimed to promote crime prevention, fight against crime, domestic and road safety messages to the elderly, he noted.

Since its establishment in December 2012, the Force organised a number of major events including the Chinese Naming and Logo Design Competition of SPC held between March and June 2013, and the promotion of Elderly Road Safety Month in different districts between September and October the same year. Up to now, there are more than 2 300 SPC members.

The Commissioner of Police appointed members of the first SPC Central Advisory Board during the ceremony. Comprising academics, professionals, Road Safety Council members, Fight Crime Committee members and community leaders, the Board will provide professional and strategic advice on the long-term development of the scheme.

SPC members had fun by taking part in games booths featuring fight crime and road safety. Other programmes included elderly talent shows, and performances of Robotcop, Police Band and Police Dog Unit.
