EMSD releases lift and escalator contractors' latest performance ratings and maintenance cost of government lifts
************************************************************

The Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) today (January 29) announced the results of registered lift and escalator contractors' performance ratings for the past 12 months (i.e. from January to December 2013) in a new presentation format. The department also released maintenance cost information on government lifts for public reference.

The EMSD conducted 10 564 inspections of lifts and escalators during the period. The contractors' performance results were issued in a format endorsed by the Lift and Escalator Safety Advisory Committee on January 17. The new format provides a simpler and clearer presentation of information to assist persons responsible for lifts and escalators in choosing registered contractors for the provision of maintenance services. The rating results, summaries of the warning letters and equipment failure records released in this quarter are available at the EMSD's website (www.emsd.gov.hk/emsd/eng/pps/le_pub_mpr.shtml).

Following the recommendations of the Advisory Committee, the EMSD also released maintenance cost information on the lifts in government buildings for public reference. The department calculated the average maintenance cost of government lifts by analysing the maintenance prices of contracts concluded through open tendering in the past three years. The information is classified according to the types of buildings, number of floors and lift characteristics. Details are available on the EMSD's website (www.emsd.gov.hk/emsd/eng/pps/leo_rpc_price.shtml). The information will be updated on a half-yearly basis.
