Newly registered diesel commercial vehicles to have service life limit of 15 years starting from February 1
************************************************************

The Environmental Protection Department reminds potential vehicle owners that starting from February 1, newly registered diesel commercial vehicles (DCVs) including goods vehicles, non-franchised buses and light buses will have a service life limit of 15 years.

The Air Pollution Control (Air Pollutant Emission) (Controlled Vehicles) Regulation has been enacted for commencement on February 1, 2014. In future, vehicle licences will not be issued to DCVs 15 years after the date of their first registration if the first registration date is on or after February 1, 2014, unless they can comply with the prevailing emission standards applicable on the date of the vehicle licence application.

Limiting the service life of newly registered DCVs to 15 years can facilitate timely replacement of these vehicles in the long run for better air quality.
