Person fined for operating unlicensed employment agency
*******************************************************

The Labour Department (LD) reminded employment agency operators to comply with the law or they may face prosecution.

The reminder came after a court case at Eastern Magistrates' Courts today (January 24) in which the operator was convicted and fined $4,000 for operating an employment agency (under the business name "Elite Maid Point") without a valid licence.

The Employment Agencies Administration (EAA) of the LD received a complaint against the employment agency concerned from an employer seeking to engage foreign domestic helpers in June 2013. The investigation revealed that the convicted person operated an employment agency without a licence.

For enquiries or complaints about unlicensed operations, please call the EAA at 2852 3535 or visit its office at 12/F, Harbour Building, 38 Pier Road, Central, Hong Kong.
