Man jailed for possessing equipment for making false instrument

     The District Court today (January 20) sentenced a 48-year-old man to an imprisonment of six years for possessing equipment for making a false instrument.

     The court heard that the man was arrested after 9,047 counterfeit credit cards were recovered in his flat in Kwun Tong. After examination of all of the cards, they were found contain no data on their magnetic strips.

     The defendant was charged with one count of possessing equipment for making a false instrument. He was convicted upon his own plea to the charges today.

     The Court recognised the serious nature of this offence and its international dimension. The Police take this opportunity to reiterate the serious consequences of manufacturing or using counterfeit payment cards and also their determination to help maintain Hong Kong's safe and stable business environment through prevention and detection of the crime.
