Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak-kim, at a media session after officiating at the Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education's Annual Hotung Lecture 2014 today (January 18):

Reporter: Do you mind also commenting in English on how the transport system will actually help the Mainland students come to Hong Kong to study if they are actually going to schools not in North District?

Secretary for Education: On the whole allocation arrangement this year, two types of duties are going on. The first one is the on-going standing practice. On this particular count, I would particularly remind all parents that these two days are important dates for them to make their choices and applications, getting them completed on time. The second one is a special arrangement with eight special school nets in order to accommodate cross-border students to make better choices with better information.  This particular practice also tries to avoid sort of too concentrating on one or two nets, causing all the jam and crowds. This is the particular one. There are quite a number of different entry points getting into the eastern part, the middle part and the western part of the New Territories. We believe, with this particular and more evenly distributed (arrangement) through different entry points, it would help decentralise the whole distribution. This whole thing tries to make sure this whole procedure getting more disciplined and better arranged with better information for all parents.
