The Legislative Council Secretariat (the Secretariat) today (January 15) launched the Legislative Council (LegCo) YouTube Channel and the LegCo Flickr photo album.
"We believe that sharing videos and photos of meetings and activities of the Council on social media websites will provide user-friendly platforms for members of the public to follow what is going on in LegCo. Members of the public can view videos and photos using desktop computers, smart phones or other mobile devices", said the Secretary General of the Secretariat, Mr Kenneth Chen.
Video recordings of Council meetings will be uploaded to the LegCo YouTube Channel in their entirety by segments according to the agenda items of the meetings. They are available in floor, Putonghua and English versions. Sign language interpretation is also available through the floor version. "For a Council meeting in progress, the segments will normally be uploaded to the Channel as soon as an agenda item has been completed", explained Mr Chen on how the use of YouTube will facilitate the public to replay a particular part of a Council meeting.
Video recordings of the Council meetings in the 2013-2014 session (this session) are ready for viewing upon the launch of the LegCo YouTube Channel today. Video recordings of committee meetings of this session, Council and committee meetings of the 2012-2013 session, as well as other videos introducing the functions and work of LegCo will be uploaded to the Channel in phases.

As regards the LegCo Flickr photo album at www.flickr.com/photos/hk_legislature, members of the public can view a collection of photos of Members' official events and activities such as local and overseas duty visits, Members' meetings with visitors, as well as their participation in official events and education activities. "Members of the public are welcome to follow us on Flickr to better understand the work of LegCo and Members", added Mr Chen.
Meanwhile, testing of the LegCo Mobile Application (Apps) on Android and Apple iOS platforms has entered its final stage. Information including LegCo meeting calendar, Members' contact directory and photos of Members' official events and activities will be made available through the Apps. It will be launched shortly for free download by the public.
