Approval letters issued to second batch of successful applicants under Scheme of Extending the HOS Secondary Market to White Form Buyers
*******************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hong Kong Housing Authority:

Approval letters to the remaining 2 500 successful applicants under the Scheme of Extending the Home Ownership Scheme (HOS) Secondary Market to White Form Buyers will be issued tomorrow (December 31).

"Within six weeks from the date of the Approval Letters, successful applicants may apply to the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) or the Hong Kong Housing Society (HS) for a Certificate of Eligibility to Purchase (CEP) to purchase a suitable flat with premium not yet paid on the HA's HOS Secondary Market or the HS' Flat-for-Sale Scheme (FFSS) Secondary Market. The CEP is valid for six months and holders of a CEP can apply for a one-off renewal for a further six months before its expiry," a spokesman for the HA said today (December 30).

To complete the transaction, holders of the CEP need to apply for a Letter of Nomination from the HA or the HS after they have entered into a Provisional Agreement for Sale and Purchase. Whether the applicants can successfully purchase a flat depends on many factors, including whether there are flats available for sale in their desirable locations.

In response to the aspirations of low- and middle-income families for home ownership, the Government introduced in January 2013 an interim scheme before the completion of the first batch of new HOS flats. Under the Scheme, an annual quota of 5 000 was set for eligible White Form applicants to purchase flats with premium not yet paid on the HA's Secondary Market or the HS' FFSS Secondary Market. Approval letters were issued to the first batch of 2 500 successful applicants in end May.

The HA and HS so far have approved over 900 applications for Letter of Nomination from the first batch applicants, while there were about 530 applicants requesting a one-off renewal of the CEP for six months.
