Music Office's Youth Music Marathon to involve 800 young musicians

     The Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will present the Youth Music Marathon from 2pm to 5pm on January 4 and 26 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre's Piazza C and Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza respectively. More than 800 youth musicians from 10 orchestras of the Music Office will share the wonderful world of Chinese, wind and string music with the audience.

     Orchestras to perform at Piazza C of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre include the Music Office Junior Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Junior Chamber Ensemble, Island Youth Strings, New Territories Youth Symphonic Band and Hong Kong Children's Symphonic Band. Performing at the Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza will be the Kowloon Youth Symphonic Band, Music Office Youth Brass Band, New Territories Youth Strings, Kowloon Youth Strings and New Territories Youth Chinese Orchestra.

     The programmes include the traditional Chinese pieces, "Flower Drum Song", "Dance of the Golden Snake" and "Sturdy Steeds Gallop"; the wind symphonies, "La Cumparsita", "Aladdin" and "Under the Sea", and the popular string compositions, "Love Song for Kangding", "Three Slavonic Dances" and "Three Czech Folk Songs".
