**************************************************

The Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, visited Sham Shui Po today (December 12) to learn more about the latest developments in the district. He visited a correctional institution and a School for Social Development (SSD). He also met with District Councillors to learn about their views and concerns on law and order issues regarding the district.

Accompanied by the Chairman of the Sham Shui Po District Council, Mr Jimmy Kwok, and the District Officer (Sham Shui Po), Mr Benjamin Mok, Mr Lai first visited Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre, where he was briefed on the work and facilities of the institution. During the visit, Mr Lai observed the use of the X-ray body scanner which was introduced to provide an alternative to traditional body cavity search. He was also updated on the urine specimen collection arrangement at the Urine Specimen Collection Centre, which was put into operation in late June.

Mr Lai then proceeded to the Society of Boys' Centres Chak Yan Centre School, where he was briefed on the school's services. As one of the seven SSDs in the territory, the school provides special educational services to students with learning, emotional and behavioural problems. Students learn social skills and rebuild proper learning attitudes through a tailor-made curriculum, individual counselling and a personal and social development programme. Mr Lai also visited the boys' residences, a multimedia training room and a life skills training room to understand more about student life in the centre.

Before concluding his visit, Mr Lai met with Sham Shui Po District Councillors and exchanged views with them on law and order matters and other community issues of concern.
