Hong Kong Police attended 8th Symposium on Police Studies of the Strait cum Hong Kong and Macao

     The Commissioner of Police, Mr Tsang Wai-hung, led the Hong Kong Police Force delegates to attend the 8th Symposium on Police Studies of the Strait cum Hong Kong and Macao in Taipei from December 2 to 5.

     The annual event is held in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan by rotation.  The theme of the 8th Symposium is "Reflection and Vision on the Mechanism for Cross-boundary Police Co-operation".  A total of 250 participants including police officers, expert delegates and academics from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan participated in the event to present their papers and exchange views on the related topics.

     On December 3, the President of the Police Association of China, Mr Tian Qiyu; Chairman of Taiwan Criminal Investigation and Prevention Association, Mr Henry Chen Shiang-li; Director General of Taiwan Police Agency, Mr Wang Cho-chiun; Commissioner of Hong Kong Police, Mr Tsang Wai-hung; and the Commissioner General of Unitary Police Service, Macao, Mr Jose Proenca Branco delivered speech at the Opening Ceremony.

     During the seven plenary sessions of the two-day symposium, 29 papers were presented.  The participants focused on the theme and discussed ways of enhancing the mechanism for cross-boundary law enforcement and police co-operation, and also shared successful experiences and challenges faced in dealing with issues such as cross-boundary drug trafficking, telecommunications fraud, online crimes and confiscation of proceeds of crime.

     Deputy Commissioner of Police (Management), Mr Ma Wai-luk and Director of Personnel and Training, Mr Chau Kwok-leung also attended the symposium.
