Woman jailed for possessing and using false instrument

     The District Court today (November 27) sentenced a 45-year-old expatriate female to an imprisonment of four years and four months for possessing and using false instrument.

     The court heard that on June 22, when the woman was purchasing a flight ticket at an airline counter at the Hong Kong International Airport, an airline staff spotted a large pile of credit cards was in the woman's possession and felt suspicious.  The staff made a report to Police.  Officers seized 67 counterfeit credit cards and a forged passport from the woman.

     The woman was later charged with two counts of possessing a false instrument and three counts of using a false instrument.  She was convicted of all charges and the sentence was handed down today.

     Police reiterate that possessing and using counterfeit credit cards are serious offences. Police are determined to take prevention and enforcement actions against such crimes to maintain a safe and stable business environment in Hong Kong.
