Temporary traffic and transport arrangements for tram track renewal work on Johnston Road in Wan Chai from this Saturday

     The Transport Department (TD) today (November 14) reminded the public that temporary traffic and transport arrangements to facilitate tram track renewal work would be implemented in Wan Chai from 10am this Saturday (November 16) to 11.59pm on December 8.

     The temporary traffic and transport arrangements will mainly include:

(1) Temporary traffic arrangements

* The sections of Johnston Road westbound between Stone Nullah Lane and Tai Wo Street and between Triangle Street and Fleming Road will be temporarily closed to all vehicular traffic except for trams.

* Vehicles exceeding 7 metres in length on Johnston Road eastbound will be prohibited from making a right turn onto Tai Wo Street.

* Vehicles exceeding 7 metres in length on Wan Chai Road southbound will be prohibited from making a right turn onto Triangle Street.

* Vehicles at Cross Street will be prohibited from making a left turn onto Stone Nullah Lane.

* Vehicles less than 7 metres in length on Johnston Road eastbound will be allowed to make a right turn onto Stone Nullah Lane.

* Vehicles on Johnston Road westbound heading for Admiralty will be diverted via Wan Chai Road, Queen's Road East, Morrison Hill Road, Tin Lok Lane and Hennessy Road.

* Vehicles on Wan Chai Road westbound heading for Admiralty will be diverted via Fleming Road and Hennessy Road.

* Vehicles exceeding 7 metres in length on Wan Chai Road southbound heading for Admiralty will be diverted via Queen's Road East, Morrison Hill Road, Tin Lok Lane and Hennessy Road.

* Vehicles on Wan Chai Road westbound heading for Johnston Road will be diverted via Fleming Road, Hennessy Road and Johnston Road eastbound.
 
(2) Temporary transport arrangements

* The Wan Chai-bound green minibus (GMB) route No. 4B (Aberdeen (Shek Pai Wan) - Wan Chai (Circular)) will be diverted via Wan Chai Road, Fleming Road, Lockhart Road westbound, Fenwick Street southbound and Johnston Road eastbound before resuming its original routeing in Ship Street.

* The Central-bound GMB route No. 6 (Ocean Park / Shouson Hill - Central (Man Kwong Street)) will be diverted via Wan Chai Road, Fleming Road, Lockhart Road westbound, Luard Road northbound before resuming its original routing in Gloucester Road.

* The taxi pick up/drop off point near 148-158 Johnson Road westbound will be temporarily suspended.

     Appropriate traffic signs and road markings will be erected on site to guide motorists. Notices will be put up by related GMB operators to inform passengers of the above temporary public transport arrangements.

     Motorists are advised to avoid driving to the affected areas. In case of traffic congestion, motorists should exercise tolerance and patience, and follow the instructions of the Police. People planning to go to the affected area are advised to use public transport as far as possible.

     The TD and the Police will closely monitor the traffic situation and implement appropriate measures whenever necessary. The public are advised to be alert to the latest traffic news on radio and television.
