Company fined for operating unlicensed club
*******************************************

A company was fined $20,000 at the Fanling Magistrates' Courts today (November 12) for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

The courts heard that in April this year, officers from the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department inspected a club on Ha San Wai Road, Yuen Long. Posing as customers, OLA officers registered as members upon the request of the club staff and patronised the club for food.

According to the OLA's record, the club did not possess a valid certificate of exemption or a certificate of compliance on the day of inspection. Therefore, the company operating the club was charged with contravening section 4(1) of the Ordinance.

A spokesman for the department said enforcement actions would continue to be taken against unlicensed or illegal club operations.
