Appointments made to Appeal Board on Public Meetings and Processions

     The Government announced today (November 8) the re-appointment of the Chairman and two Members of the Appeal Board on Public Meetings and Processions made by the Chief Executive under section 43 of the Public Order Ordinance (Cap. 245) for a further term of two years as follows:

     The Chief Executive has also appointed the following persons as a Deputy Chairman and 10 Members of the Appeal Board for a term of two years:

     The above appointments and re-appointments were gazetted today. The term of office for Mr Chan Chi-hung, SC, will take effect from November 19, 2013 while that for the other appointees will take effect from December 22, 2013.

     The Secretary for Security, Mr Lai Tung-kwok, expressed his appreciation to the outgoing Members, namely Mr Gerard Chung Wai-hung, Mr Christopher Chan Yiu-chong, Ms Emily Cheung Mui-seung, Mr Ivan Chu Kwok-leung, Mr Hui Yung-chung, Mr Edgar Kwan Chi-ping, Mrs Sandra Mak Wong Siu-chun, Dr Greg Wong Chak-yan, Mr Raymond Wong Kwai-sang and Dr Helena Yuen Chan Suk-yee for their valuable contribution to the work of the Appeal Board.

     The Appeal Board comprises a Chairman, two Deputy Chairmen and 13 members, all of whom are not public officers. The Appeal Board is responsible for considering appeals against the prohibition of a public meeting, an objection to a public procession, or the conditions imposed or amended on a public meeting or public procession by the Commissioner of Police under sections 9, 14, 11 or 15 of the Public Order Ordinance (Cap. 245) respectively. The Appeal Board is empowered to confirm, reverse or vary the decision being appealed against.
