Music Office to launch School Care Subsidy Scheme
*************************************************

School students are invited to participate in the 2013-14 School Care Subsidy Scheme, which aims to cultivate their civic awareness and community spirit by helping the underprivileged through musical performances and activities.

The deadline for application is November 8.

More than 110 schools have participated in the School Care Subsidy Scheme since the Music Office of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department launched it in 2009. Sponsored by the Sino Group, the scheme provides subsidies to help music groups from primary, secondary, special, international and tertiary schools to organise music activities for the underprivileged.

The students can combine music with other art forms in their performances to enrich the activities in a creative way, and benefit themselves by building up team spirit and organisational abilities during the creative process.

The maximum subsidy is $2,000 for each activity, to cover costs including transportation, instructors' allowances and other items.

Successful applicants must complete the activities between December 2013 and June 6, 2014. Outstanding teams will be invited to give a performance and share their experiences in a gala concert at a Sino Group shopping mall in July next year. All successful participants in the scheme will be awarded certificates of commendation at a presentation ceremony during the gala concert.

Application forms are now available at all music centres of the Music Office and service centres of the Hong Kong Professional Teachers' Union. They can also be downloaded from the website: www.lcsd.gov.hk/CE/CulturalService/MusicOffice/en/active_05_01.php . Completed forms can be submitted by post, or in person to the Music Office Hong Kong Music Centre.

All applications will be evaluated based on their feasibility, ingenuity and interactive elements as well as the group's organisational experience. Applicants will be notified of the results within two weeks after the closing date.
