The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
In accordance with the movement of Consumer Price Index (C) (CPI(C)), the Legislative Council (LegCo) Members' remuneration and ceilings for reimbursement of medical allowance and certain operating expenses are adjusted with effect from October 1, 2013. Members' monthly remuneration is adjusted from $84,490 to $87,450; the annual medical allowance is adjusted from $29,420 to $30,450; and the operating expenses reimbursements for office operation is adjusted from not exceeding $2,166,310 per year to not exceeding $2,242,130 per year.
A LegCo Member is provided with reimbursements to cover expenses arising out of his/her LegCo duties, including employment of staff, use of consultancy service, publicity items, entertainment and travelling, activities and office accommodation expenses etc.
LegCo Members' remuneration, medical allowance and ceilings for reimbursement of operating expenses, are subject to annual adjustment in October in accordance with the movement of CPI(C). Members' reimbursement claims are subject to compliance audit annually. Members are required to provide assistance when field audits are carried out, such as provision of records, explanations and justifications. Records should be kept for at least two years. All claim forms, declaration forms and supporting documents except employment contracts, consultancy agreements and separately provided personal information of staff and suppliers, are available for inspection by the public.
