Aviation passenger fuel surcharges
**********************************

The Civil Aviation Department (CAD) today (October 22) approved passenger fuel surcharges for the period November 1 to 30.

The maximum levels of fuel surcharges for November will be maintained at $229 for short-haul flights and $935 for long-haul flights. The applicable surcharge levels are based on the ticket issue date. The approved fuel surcharge levels of individual airlines have been published on the CAD's website (www.cad.gov.hk/english/fuel_surcharge.htm).

Passenger fuel surcharges seek to allow airlines to partially recover the increase in operational costs due to fluctuations in aviation fuel prices. As the aeronautical authority in Hong Kong, the CAD considers and approves fuel surcharge applications from airlines in accordance with bilateral Air Services Agreements.

Passenger fuel surcharges are reviewed by the CAD on a monthly basis. In last month's review, the maximum surcharge levels for short-haul and long-haul flights approved by the CAD were $229 and $935 respectively.
