Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances 2013 will be staged on October 27 (Sunday) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza from 2.30pm to 5.30pm, showcasing a series of entertainment programmes including ethnic performances, mask and costume parades and arts and crafts displays, as well as workshops for the public to gain a greater appreciation of the splendid diversity of different Asian countries and regions. Admission to all programmes is free.
Adopting the theme "Colours in Asia, Parade in Fantasia" this year, the performances will open with a parade of different performing groups. The event will also feature a catwalk show by artists showcasing the fascinating masks of the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Nepal in addition to colourful Asian costumes.
Members of the public may also enjoy ethnic performances by various Asian groups. Among the music and dance highlights will be Japanese taiko, Korean samul nori, Indian bharathanatyam dance, Thai umbrella and golden tray dance, and Turkish traditional instrumental solo performance. A series of fringe activities will also be featured, including regional food demonstrations and batik and handicraft demonstrations, as well as a series of workshops including a dance workshop, a fruit carving workshop, a bead workshop and other traditional handicrafts workshops. The public will also be treated to a breathtaking mask and costume display to experience the vibrancy of different Asian cultures.
The outdoor programme Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances 2013 is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and participants at this year's event are representing a record number of 13 countries and regions, namely the Mainland, Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Turkey.
