Chung King-fai presents "On Golden Pond" in Reader's Theatre
************************************************************

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "Reader's Theatre by Chung King-fai (I) - On Golden Pond" produced by the Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies and conducted in Cantonese, will be staged this November and January 2014. The programme includes the Reader's Theatre, text analysis, and a question and answer session.

The play is directed by Luther Fung and led by veteran actor and theatre director Chung King-fai, supported by experienced actors Lo Kwun-lan, Fung Wai-hang, Ko Tin-lung, Lau Shek-yin and Choy Chak-man. The Readers' Theatre is based on the classic story "On Golden Pond" by Ernest Thompson. This version offers a brand-new theatre experience for the audience.

Norman is a retired professor with a brusque and sometimes acid sense of humour, now almost 80 years' old. His lifelong partner is 10 years younger, easygoing and fun to be with. One day they are visited by their daughter, who is somewhat estranged from her curmudgeonly father. Chelsea, who is middle-age and divorced, introduces them to her boyfriend - a dentist - and his son. Though the boy and Norman hardly get along at first, eventually they come to enjoy each other's company like grandfather and grandson. The rift between the father and daughter also begins to close. As summer draws to an end the retired professor suffers a heart attack. The sense of death is very real, but this also makes them aware how much they love each other. Time may be running out, but they have had a wonderful life together and perhaps, next summer, they will return to Golden Pond.

The Reader's Theatre will be staged at 3pm on November 9 (Saturday) and January 25, 2014 (Saturday) at the Lecture Hall, Hong Kong Space Museum. Programme duration is approximately 5 hours (with 1 hour 30 mins intermission). The first session is from 3pm to 5.30pm and the second session is from 7pm to 9.30pm.
