Extension of Parking Certificate for Drivers Who Carry People with Mobility Disabilities on trial
*******************************************************

The Transport Department (TD) today (September 27) announced that a trial scheme for extending the existing scheme of the Parking Certificate for Drivers Who Carry People with Mobility Disabilities will take effect from next Monday (September 30).

Under the existing scheme, drivers holding a Parking Certificate issued by the TD can park their private cars at designated disabled parking spaces in government multi-storey car parks managed by the TD when carrying their family members with mobility difficulties.

With the trial scheme, the eligibility for application for a Parking Certificate will be extended to cover designated drivers carrying passengers with mobility disabilities other than their own family members. The eligible applicant can either be the designated driver carrying the person with mobility difficulties or the person with mobility difficulties himself. In either case, the applicant must be the registered owner of the vehicle.

The trial scheme, which will last for three months, will end in late December. The TD will conduct a review after completion of the scheme.

The new application form and the "Notes to Help You" document will be available on the TD website (www.td.gov.hk/en/public_forms/td_forms/service_for_the_disabled/index.html) next Monday.
