Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, after the opening ceremony of the Exhibition on 60 Years of Public Housing Development in Hong Kong today (September 26):

Reporter: Concerning the MTR (South Island) Line, the design process ... What are your views on that? What will the Government do to ...?

Secretary for Transport and Housing: I notice that there is a newspaper report on the South Island Line issue (regarding the safety of new train cars). We are concerned, of course, about any safety issues. So we have asked the MTR Corporation Limited to provide a report within three (working) days to explain to us whether those allegations are indeed valid. Of course, as far as the Government is concerned, we expect the highest standards of safety and maintenance in our railway network. So the safety requirement for the South Island Line is the same as the requirement for all other lines within the network.
